Web Design for Photographers

Along with my specialist area of retouching, I have a general interest in all forms of computer aided design and graphics, and have completed several websites, mainly for photographers and artists as that is the industry I work in.

I create an aesthetically stimulating layout that is logical and simple to use, but has the necessary 'flourishes' to give a professional and creative feel, without overwhelming your images. I typically use Flash, which I think is an excellent tool for presentation as it allows smooth transitions, animations and fading between images, but I am equally comfortable designing in HTML and CSS.

Simple and Logical Workflow

I would typically ask a potential client to write a brief on what they would wish to accomplish with a website, the sections and content they wish to include and number of images.

There are a lot of things to consider prior to designing the site, for example Flash is a great tool for presentation, but it is not great for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) because search engines such as Google place preferential weighting on HTML text and largely ignores images and text. I would discuss these finer issues with the client to ascertain exactly what is important.
