Product and Packshot Retouching
Product Retouching is a much more precise form of photographic retouching, typically a client will want an image that is not only clean and correctly colour balanced, but also shows all of the product details in their best light. In order for this to happen, a product may be lit from various angles and photographic exposures and postproduction is used to accurately composite all these elements together.
For this to happen accurately, all of the elements need to be ‘pathed’ so that they can be selected and combined neatly and precisely, without overlapping into other elements of the image.
Examples of product retouching might include
- a catalogue of images containing chrome elements where all the metallic items should be a designated colour
- an item with LED diplays, the LED’s are photographed at different exposures to the main item
- an item containing glass elements is lit (and using reflective materials) at different angles to eliminate ugly reflections
- a client photographs all elements separately and wishes to combine together at a later stage or alter the backgrounds
I have an extensive background in precision retouching and have completed projects for clients like Bosch, Mappin & Webb, LSA, NEFF, Vodaphone andDeBeers.
