Beauty Retouching sample from Photo Retoucher John Deaville

Beauty Retouching Services

My early background was very much focused on fashion and beauty retouching, as I worked in a studio largely shooting fashion editorials

The aim of beauty retouching is to create a cleaner, often more illustrative image than the original photograph, before digital technology this would have been done by airbrushing the prints – and that is why a lot of old vintage adverts look like paintings rather than photographs. With Photoshop it is much more precise (and reversable!)

A typical Beauty retouching assignment might comprise of

  • cloning and airbrushing skin surfaces
  • opening and brightening eyes
  • distorting cheek, jowl and chin lines which can look odd from certain angles
  • altering the original lighting to either emphasise or hide contours
  • straightening/whitening teeth
  • tidying hairlines/stray hairs

As I generally work with photographers who have a fair idea of using Photoshop, I generally supply the work as a layered PSD file, organised in layer folders, so that the client may alter the opacity of certain effects to their preference as well as make any additional colour adjustments.

If you are interested in discussing your beauty retouching project then please contact me. I will probably need to see your images marked up in order to give you an accurate assessment and timeframe.

Please take a look in my beauty retouching portfolios for more examples of beauty retouching as well as before and after samples.
